Responsible for enforcing the rules of the meet and ensuring fair competition. The Referee holds a pre-meet meeting 30 minutes before start time to review Stroke/Turn officials' positioning, jurisdiction, relay take-off duties, and stroke briefing.
Announces the age and stroke of each event and says, "SWIMMERS TAKE YOUR MARK" to ensure all swimmers are motionless before giving an electronic sound or a blast of a whistle. Also responsible for judging false starts, which should be restarted.
Observe strokes, turns, and finishes to see that swimmers comply with requirements for that stroke.
Works with Technology Coordinator to sort timer sheets, DQ slips, ribbon labels and result sheets. Also assists with inputting times from the swimmers’ cards.
Controls the flow of the meet by ensuring swimmers are ready for their events. Supervises the waiting area for each age group during meets, distributes event cards for relays, keeps track of swimmers between events and gets swimmers to the ready bench on time with caps and goggles. For most age groups there are parent assistants to work with as well.
Sets up and operates the Colorado Timing System during the meet, which records the times of all the swimmers.
Compares the CTS results with the stop watch times and determines which will be the “official” time.
Announces first, second, and final calls for each event, along with other public announcements. Works closely with the starter to keep the meet running smoothly. The announcer will need to anticipate flow based on the number of swimmers, the stroke, and the number of lengths to swim.
Runs an extra stopwatch and is a back-up to the primary lane timers.
Uses a stopwatch to record the time for the swimmer in your assigned lane. There are 2-3 timers per lane (1 from each team). There is a brief information meeting before the meet begins.
Assists Clerk of Course Position with ensuring that swimmers are in the right place at the right time.
Responsible for obtaining the completed event cards and DQ forms for each race from the timers and judges. The cards and DQ forms are delivered to the scoring table. This job keeps you moving around at the poolside.
Supervises the waiting area for a particular age group during meets, distributes event cards for relays, keeps track of swimmers - as best as they reasonably can - between events, and gets swimmers to the ready bench on time. For most age groups, several parents will share this job. This position is obviously more important for the younger swimmers.
Help with sales and distribution of meals and snacks as part of our team fundraiser.
Helps with the sale of Raffle Tickets during the meet. Typically only done at the last home meet.
Provides water and checks on any additional needs for officials, coaches, lifeguards, and timers during the meet.
This position will help fill in where needed.
